PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Patrick Reed battled a misbehaving driver early in the final round Sunday at the Honda Classic but managed to keep himself in the hunt to win another PGA Tour title in South Florida.
Reed, who hooked a tee shot off a tree at the second hole and hooked tee shots into trouble again at the third and fourth holes, still managed to scrap to within one shot of the lead when the final round was suspended because of darkness.
“I’ve been scrambling and scrambling,” Reed said.

If Reed wins Monday, it will be his fifth PGA Tour title before the age of 25. He would join Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia as the only players to do that over the last 30 years. He will tee it up as the defending champion at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral later this week.
Three shots down going to the fifth tee Sunday at PGA National, Reed gained a share of the Honda Classic lead with an impressive 34-foot birdie putt from off the green.
After Poulter hit his tee shot in the water at the sixth. Reed briefly held the lead alone. He dropped a shot back of co-leaders Poulter and Paul Casey after failing to get up and down for par at the seventh hole just before darkness fell.
“A lot of holes left, and I’m only one back,” Reed said. “Going to start fresh tomorrow.”
