Nike Golf's president Davis retiring from company

Cindy Davis, Nike Golf’s president since 2008, announced Tuesday that she plans to retire from the company. Davis first joined Nike Golf as general manager in the mid-2000s after serving as a senior vice president at Golf Channel and various roles at the Arnold Palmer Golf Company.

A successor will be named later, according to a release.

“We thank Cindy for her leadership throughout the years as she had led the development and growth of Nike’s golf business worldwide,” Nike’s vice president and general manager of global categories Jayme Martin said in a release. “Under Cindy’s direction, Nike Golf has steadily delivered profitable growth year after year since 2009.”

Perhaps Davis will be remembered most for luring Rory McIlroy to the company in 2013. It’s nearly impossible to forget how the much-talked-about relationship began via a laser-light show in Abu Dhabi.

Two months ago, the company made a high-powered product launch for the Vapor line of woods and irons when pitchmen Tiger Woods and McIlroy made an appearance on “The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon.” Fallon, in turn, joined Woods and McIlroy for a New York media gathering later that same evening.

Nike Golf’s sales were a reported $789 million in its most recent fiscal year, up more than $60 million since 2008, the year Davis assumed the president role.

Earlier this year, at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., Davis sat down with GolfChannel.com senior writer Rex Hoggard.
