Horschel continues his torrid run

ATLANTA – This is getting to feel a little like déjà vu for Billy Horschel.

Two weeks ago, he finished in a share of second place at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Last week, he won the BMW Championship. And this week, he’s already on top of the Tour Championship leaderboard by two strokes entering the weekend, thanks to a second consecutive 4-under 66.

“I said yesterday I’ll take three more 66s and see where that puts me,” he reiterated. “And I’ll say again today I’ll take two more 66s, see where that puts me on Sunday.”

Not that the first two rounds were completely identical.

After a flawless scorecard on Thursday, Horschel posted two bogeys on Friday, but counteracted them with a half-dozen birdies to remain two shots ahead of Rory McIlroy, Chris Kirk and Jason Day.

He now goes into the weekend knowing that winning the tournament will also assure him of winning the FedEx Cup title.

“Going into last week and having that lead and executing the game plan almost to a tee that I had, it gives me a lot of confidence knowing that when I’m in that lead I can play my game and I can still come out on top.”
